Fat Daddy’s is a barbecue stand in Cobb Wisconsin, a small town between Dodgeville and Montfort.  If you’re heading out that direction (going to Rural Route One Popcorn or Wyalusing State Park, for example) Fat Daddy’s is a great choice for lunch.  I don’t know about you, but I’m a sucker for food from a cart or trailer.  It was all the more exciting to find a roadside stand out here not selling brats. (I love brats, but there’s a brat stand every 10 miles).


We had a beef brisket sandwich and a pulled pork sandwich. We’d already eaten lunch when we stumbled on this place, so we didn’t get any sides. I’m regretting this now, since I’ve heard they make a very good coleslaw.  Both sandwiches were tender and moist.  The pork had a quite smoky flavor (hickory, perhaps?) whereas the beef was fairly mild.  They had clearly been cooked a long time at a low temperature (good brisket should be cooked ~ 225-250 F for 1hr 15min per pound).  The sauce was very good (two kinds, regular and hot).  The buns were soft white bread– precisely what good BBQ demands.  They also have ribs, a couple of sides, soda and sweet tea available.  While not the best barbecue I’ve ever had, this was definitely the real deal.  Fat Daddy’s offers very well executed BBQ in an area sadly not really known for barbecue.  We’ll be returning to try the rest of the menu and we’ll let you know how the ribs are (or you tell us if you make it there first).
