This morning we visited our first farmers’ market of the season, the Mineral Point Farmers’ Market. We got some spinach, leeks, butter lettuce, and asparagus as well as two packages of bacon (don’t judge) and all beef hotdogs for grilling out from Marr’s. It was wonderful to see familiar faces again and to meet some new ones.
The hot and humid growing days are over. I’m going to miss going to the outdoor markets, stopping at random roadside stands, kayaking on the river, and yes maybe even swatting away those pesky mosquitoes. He was always interested in food, and at first he thought the right outlet for him was to work in a kitchen. And so that’s where he found himself one day, working in the kitchen of a little local Berkeley place…Chez Panisse. [...] Meet Mike Manogue aka “Mr. Tippy Top”. I met him at the farmer’s market about a year ago. He is quite possibly the most ebullient, passionate, and genuinely happy person I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.
