How is it that something that isn’t even really a restaurant could be the best restaurant in Wisconsin? Well I don’t know how…but I think it just might be. [...] Hello all, let me tell you about our idea of a well spent Saturday in the Driftless Area. Our first ”must do” was a walk over to Cafe Ellie to get a cup of latte (a pumpkin spice one for me) made with Kickapoo coffee. Then we made quick stop at a Little Free Library to drop off a book [...] Last weekend, our friend Savatore Di Scala invited us out to eat at Naples 15 (in Madison), his newly opened restaurant. We were not given any menus, Sal said it was going to be a surprise! We ordered a couple glasses of red wine (Cannonau from Sardinia and Sangiovese Grosso from Tuscany) and eagerly awaited the first dish. [...] Rumbleseats, on Hwy 14 on the west side of Spring Green, gets the drive-in formula just about perfect. Car Hops? Check (although no rollerskates). Picnic Tables? Check. Tasty locally made ice cream? Check. Greasy, greasy food? Check. [...] Recently I was asked by my friend Rachel in Cleveland to do a write up of my favorite pizza place for her blog CLEZZA. We’ve already written twice about Cafe Porta Alba on Driftless Appetite in 2009 and 2010 so I think it’s about time to do another one. Go check it out! Pizza Pizza Pizza [...] The final post in our ‘Cheese Tour’ series see Parts I, II, & III) takes us to L’Etoile in Madison for a memorable meal hosted by chef Tory Miller and with guest cheesemaker Brenda Jensen of Hidden Springs Creamery in Westby, WI. Tory is the finest chef in Wisconsin and Leslie and I both [...] Hi all. Check out these delicious creations by Scott Spilger at Cafe Four in Mineral Point. Keith and I had dinner there about a month ago. “Our aim is comfort, it’s not fancy, just straightforward good food made with good ingredients, dishes that one would make for a dinner party with friends”, says Scott. Dinner started off [...] Cafe Porta Alba has experienced an upshot in popularity since relocating to the more trendy Hilldale last year. Just a few steps from the Sundance Cinemas and various boutiques, the restaurant is a top choice for theater-goers and shoppers not only for its proximity but by it’s friendly atmosphere and consistent preparation of top quality food. Once in awhile on Friday [...] Like everywhere else, Mineral Point has been feeling the effects of the economic downturn. There are a few too many empty storefronts downtown at the moment, and the restaurants have taken it particularly hard. Closed recently are the Walker House, Gundry & Gray, Shedders, and (most lamentably) the Old Royal Inn. Things are looking up [...] We’ve been in this area for almost three years now and I’ve finally made it to The Cook’s Room! It’s in downtown Dodgeville and as you can see they are located in a beautiful, Italianate style (I hope I’m right) building. My first visit was about two weeks ago. I walked in and there was a raucous group of ladies [...] |
